Race for life 2011 - Cancer Research UK

I've signed up to take part in Race for Life 2011 to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Why am I doing this?

Many people have (or know of someone who has) been affected in some way by Cancer. It could be personal, a family member, friends or work colleagues. Over the past few years, I’ve known a number of people who have tragically lost their lives to Cancer and I want to do this to remember them. I also know several people who have had cancer, beaten it and are living life to the full today. I want to do this to support them too. So I am going to do my bit.

But it involves running, doesn’t it?

Erm... Yes. A fast ‘one foot in front of the other’ action is required. I’ve opted to do the Tatton Park 10k run in June. ‘SA? Doing a 10k run!’ I hear you cry. I know... a 10k run is something I wouldn’t have dreamed about doing several years ago. Anyone that knows me knows I’m not a natural runner. In fact I used to hate running. This deep seated hatred of running fuelled almost entirely from a sincere dislike of a sadistic PE teacher and the dreaded cross country runs at my old high school many years ago. However, the times – they have a-changed.

Nowadays I quite like the occasional run. Well, I say run. I sort of do a cross between a walk, a jog and a run – jalkun maybe? or a wunog? And whilst I have no inclinations to enter any marathons any time soon I am definitely improving. I did a 10k walk last year and really enjoyed the whole event. This year, though, I want a bit more of a challenge and think I ought to attempt to run at least some sections of the course.

How can you help?

Well, if you want to find out more about Cancer Research UK’s Race for life 2011, wish to make a donation or perhaps enter the race yourself (living in the UK helps ;-)) then I’ve provided a link to the website where you can find more details http://www.raceforlife.org/
